Payments Business Systems Analyst – Commercial & Investment Banking

Key Responsibilities
Payments Analysis & Design
Analyze and document end-to-end payment flows across channels, payment hubs, screening, posting, settlement, and reporting
Translate business and regulatory requirements into clear functional and non-functional requirements
Support modernization initiatives, including payment hub consolidation
Partner with architects and engineers to ensure solutions align with payments best practices
Messaging & Integration
Define and validate payment messaging requirements, including:
ISO 20022 (pacs, pain, camt)
SWIFT MT/MX coexistence
Create and maintain field-level mapping specifications
Support integrations using APIs, message queues, and file-based interfaces
Define error handling, retry logic, idempotency, and reconciliation points
Risk, Controls & Compliance
Embed AML, OFAC, and sanctions screening requirements into payment flows
Ensure proper audit trails, traceability, and evidentiary data
Support investigations, returns, and exception handling workflows
Partner with Risk and Compliance teams during audits and regulatory reviews
Testing & Delivery Support
Define end-to-end test scenarios, including positive, negative, and edge cases
Support UAT, parallel runs, and production cutovers
Assist with defect triage, root cause analysis, and post-release stabilization
Ensure delivery readiness against operational and regulatory SLAs
Stakeholder Collaboration
Work closely with Product, Operations, Technology, and external vendors
Support client-impacting issues and payment escalations
Communicate complex payment concepts to technical and non-technical audiences
MUST HAVE QUALIFICATIONS (Non-Negotiable)
5+ years of experience as a Business Systems Analyst in financial services
Strong hands-on experience with payments systems in a banking environment
Solid understanding of:
Wires, ACH, RTP, and cross-border payments
Payment lifecycle, settlement, and liquidity concepts
Hands-on experience with ISO 20022 and SWIFT MT/MX messaging
Proven ability to analyze complex system integrations and data flows
Strong documentation skills, including:
Functional specifications
Process and flow diagrams
Field-level mapping documents
Technical Skills (Non-Coding)
Payment's architectures (real-time vs. batch)
APIs and message-based integrations
Data validation, enrichment, and transformation concepts
Reconciliation, exception handling, and monitoring
Non-functional requirements:
Throughput
Latency
Resiliency
Auditability
Preferred Qualifications
Commercial or Investment Banking experience
RTP or real-time payments exposure
Payment hub or core banking platform experience
Agile / Scrum delivery experience
Experience supporting regulatory exams or payment audits
