Senior Java Backend Developer
Role Overview
The Senior Backend Java Developer role adds technical design and development of high-throughput RESTful APIs, complex problem resolution, guidance and support for colleagues, code and documentation reviews, and use of modern principles, methodologies, and tools to advance enterprise-grade digital and event-driven initiatives. Senior Backend Developer with a strong backend-first mindset, deep expertise in Java 17+, Spring Boot, and event-driven architecture.
Creates and leads the technical design and development of robust backend microservices and APIs. Proposes & designs backend software solutions to address complex business needs. Prepares technical and architectural documentation required. Facilitates complex problem resolution within distributed services, message brokers, and enterprise data flows. Provides technical guidance and support to colleagues. Reviews coding, testing, and documentation of backend services. Applies modern principles, methodologies and tools to advance backend engineering capabilities.
Customer Focused - Knowledgeable of the values and practices that align customer needs and satisfaction as primary considerations in all business decisions and able to leverage that information in creating customized backend solutions.
Managing Risk - Assessing and effectively managing all of the risks associated with their business objectives and activities to ensure they adhere to and support the company's Enterprise Risk Management Framework.

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field
- 8+ Years of overall IT experience preferably in a large banking / financial institution environment.
Java 21 and Spring Boot enterprise development
API Development (RESTful services, microservices architecture)
Event-Driven Architecture (EDA) & Data Streaming Platforms (DSP) using Apache Kafka
Database management with Oracle (preferred), SQL Server, or PostgreSQL
Containerization and orchestration platforms (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift)
Working understanding of CI/CD pipelines and deployment mechanics (Jenkins integration with OpenShift)
Backend-first development approach (strong aversion to UI-centric full-stack profiles)
